Thai Co to promote five-star properties in India

Bangalore: The Thailand-based Anantara Hotels & Resorts has signed a memorandum of understanding with an Indian real estate developer to promote eight five-star deluxe properties under the Anantara brand in five years.

The hotel chain would manage and operate these properties, said Mr Dillip Rajakarier, Chief Operating Officer, Anantara Hotels & Resorts. However, he declined to name the developer.

The locations include Kovalam, Kochi, Goa, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai. Some of these would be mixed-use developments, he said.

According to Mr Rajakarier, the hospitality chain, with properties in Thailand, Indonesia, Maldives and Abu Dhabi, is in talks with Bangalore-based Brigade Hospitality for bringing its ‘The M Collection’ brand of spas and resorts to India. “This will also be a management contract,” he said.

According to him, the property would come up in Karnataka. ‘The M Collection’ is a high-end luxury brand, with rates of $1,200-$1,400 charged per night in the Maldives property.

The chain, which plans to have four more properties under ‘The M Collection’ brand in India, is also in negotiations with some developers from Mumbai, said Mr Rajakarier. “We are targeting the cultural and resort locations in India.”
