Survey for widening NH begins.

The survey for widening the National Highway (NH) by 45 metres in the district has begun.

Eight teams led by Special Tahsildars, Revenue Inspectors and Surveyors have commenced the process at Koyilandy and Vadakara to convert the NH into a four-lane carriageway.

Land would be acquired for NH development on the Mahi-Thalassery bypass, Nandi-Chengottukkavu (Koyilandy) bypass and Azhiyur-Vengalam stretch, officials said.

The survey for 100 km on both sides of the NH in Vadakara and Koyilandy taluks is progressing. Significantly, it has been completed on the Mahe-Thalassery bypass.

They also said that steps had been taken to fix the land rates, especially on plots having buildings and trees. Modalities have to be worked out for giving compensation to land owners.

The survey for the Nandi-Chengottukkavu bypass will begin shortly. Land for the Kozhikode bypass has already been acquired.

Earlier, Additional Chief Secretary Subrata Biswas had said that the process of acquiring land for NH widening should be completed within two months.
