St Xavier’s College plans research centre

Kolkata: St Xavier’s College, Calcutta, plans to set up a top quality research centre in its second campus proposed to be set up shortly.

The centre, estimated to cost Rs 300 crore, will be ready in three years, according to the college’s Principal, Father P C Mathew.

The proposed centre will focus on subjects related to biotechnology, microbiology, botany as well as space research and astronomy, Father Mathew told newspersons here on Thursday.

“Research forms one of the major areas of focus for higher education and we are planning to go for this in a big way and are hopeful that the centre will take shape in three years,” he said.
