Solar -based street lights commissioned
Gardez: The solar energy system installation project completed in two months by US Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) lighted Gardez city on Sunday night.
The project was completed with a total cost of $317,000 donated by the Provincial Reconstruction Team based in Paktia with 185 solar panels installed in 60 meters from each other.
Paktia Governor Juma Khan Hamdard told Pajhwok Afghan News that he has talked with the PRT for extending the solar energy lighting system to district headquarters within the province, which he said was promised to him by the PRT.
Mohammad Karim a seller of solar energy items in the city said that the solar lights can light up the streets for four nights in continuous cloud. He added that the light of these lights are dam in relation to Generator or hydropower lights.
Each of these solar panels comprise of solar plate, and a power saving battery which gives power to the lights.
