Refinery work nearing completion.

Bharat Petroleum Corporation’s integrated refinery expansion has achieved more than 91 per cent completion so far and is on schedule for its mechanical completion by May next year.

Commissioning of the expanded refinery, however, will be in a phased manner, beginning with the crude unit. BPCL sources said that pre-commissioning activities for putting utilities in place before the commissioning of the expanded refinery had begun.

Water storage and treatment plant facility has been already commissioned. Work on the gas-fired turbine for power generation was expected to begin in February, the sources added. With the completion of the expansion work, the capacity of the refinery will go up from the present 9.5 million tonnes a year to 15.5 million tonnes a year.
