Rajshri Iron Industries Plans Major Sponge Iron Capacity Expansion to 297,000 TPA in West Bengal
West Bardhaman, West Bengal: Rajshri Iron Industries Private Limited has proposed a major expansion of its existing sponge iron manufacturing facility at Mondalpur, Jamuria, in West Bardhaman district, West Bengal. The project aims to increase annual sponge iron production capacity from 60,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) to 297,000 TPA, representing an additional capacity of 237,000 TPA.
The expansion involves installing two new direct reduced iron (DRI) kilns, each with a production capacity of 350 tonnes per day (TPD), alongside the existing two 100 TPD kilns. The proposed development will substantially strengthen the company's sponge iron manufacturing capabilities and support growing demand from the domestic steel industry.
Sponge iron is an essential raw material used in secondary steelmaking, particularly for manufacturing billets, ingots and other finished steel products. The expansion is expected to enhance raw material availability, improve production integration and strengthen the company's position in the regional steel manufacturing sector.
The project is currently at the conceptual and planning stage, with environmental clearance being sought from the relevant regulatory authorities.
Details regarding the proposed investment, construction schedule, equipment suppliers and commissioning timeline have not yet been disclosed. The expansion remains subject to statutory approvals and subsequent project implementation decisions.
