Power deficit touches 8,000 MW in early July.

Demand-supply gap for power during the evening peak period has touched 8,000 MW against an average shortfall of 4,000 MW during the beginning of the month. Power generators are putting the blame on Coal India for a reduction in coal supplies.

According to the data supplied by the National Load Dispatch Centre (NLDC), power demand met since the beginning of the month has actually been declining.

For example, on July 1, the nation met around 1,35,746 MW of demand during the evening peak and the shortfall on that day was about 3,907 MW.

Generation thus had declined by 6,200 MW and demand increased to some extend due to the summer heat leading to a 8,000 MWE shortfall in demand and supply - the highest shortfall so far during the season.

Officials from NTPC, the largest power supplier, said coal supply situation is deteriorating by the day.
