MoD Signs ₹2,960-Crore Deal with BDL for Missile Procurement.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has inked a ₹2,960 crore contract with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) to supply Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missiles (MRSAM) for the Indian Navy.

The MRSAM system, a critical component for neutralizing aerial threats such as missiles, aircraft, guided bombs, and helicopters, is a standard feature on multiple Indian Navy ships and will be installed on most future naval platforms, the ministry stated.

This supersonic, vertically launched missile is already in use across various branches of the armed forces, including the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, who witnessed the signing, highlighted the deal as a significant step in enhancing India’s defence capabilities and promoting indigenous technology under the ‘Buy (Indian)’ category.

The project, largely domestically produced, is expected to generate around 3.5 lakh man-days of employment within the defence industry, including contributions from MSMEs.
