Meerut South RRTS Station Begins Passenger Services, Enhancing Connectivity to Delhi

The Meerut South RRTS station began passenger operations on Sunday at 2 pm, marking a significant step in enhancing connectivity between Meerut and Delhi. With this launch, 42 km of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor is now operational, including nine stations extending from Sahibabad in Ghaziabad to Meerut South.

The full 82-km corridor is expected to be fully functional by June 2025. Once completed, the rapid rail system will enable travelers to journey from Meerut to Sahibabad in just 45 minutes, a significant improvement over the current bus travel time of more than two hours.

This new line is poised to transform regional commuting, allowing residents of Meerut to work in Delhi, Noida, or Ghaziabad more efficiently. It is also anticipated to drive growth in the real estate sector, particularly in previously underdeveloped areas east of Ghaziabad.

Inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on October 20 and named Namo Bharat, the rapid rail system has expanded to cover all of Ghaziabad and the outskirts of Meerut within a year. This expansion includes 50% of the planned Delhi-Meerut line, with completion scheduled for June 2025.

Before the Meerut South station opening, a 34-km segment was already operational in Ghaziabad, covering stations such as Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, Duhai Depot, Muradnagar, Modinagar South, and Modinagar North. The extension to Meerut South adds another 8 km to the operational network.

Meerut South will serve as a key access point to Meerut city and surrounding districts, including Mohiuddinpur, Bhudbaral, Bahadurpur, Aminagar, Chhajjupur, Kharkhoda, Kadarabad, and other localities.

While the Delhi-Meerut expressway has already improved connectivity, it benefits primarily those who drive. The new rapid rail service offers a faster and more affordable alternative, with a one-way fare from Sahibabad to Meerut South priced at Rs 110.

Upcoming sections include a 14 km stretch from Jangpura to Sahibabad and a 23.6 km portion from Meerut South to Modipuram. Construction in Delhi is nearing completion, with only a 2 km elevated section left to finish in Meerut.
