"Kerala Tourism Projects Aligned with Current Demands, Affirms Minister Riyas"

Tourism Minister PA Mohamed Riyas stated that the state government is actively working to ensure that beach tourism projects are in sync with current demands. He highlighted the efforts to tap into the vast possibilities of this niche segment and elevate the standard of hospitality. The minister made these remarks while inaugurating the renovated Samudra Kovalam, the beachside resort of the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) in Thiruvananthapuram. The renovated resort now boasts a range of world-class features.

Minister Riyas emphasized the importance of adopting innovative ideas in the tourism sector, noting that the refurbished sea-front resort will enhance Kerala's reputation as a rapidly emerging hub for destination weddings and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) tourism. With destination weddings gaining global popularity, the minister highlighted the picturesque locations in the state that can promote this niche area, with the government striving to create top-notch facilities for this segment.

KTDC Chairman PK Sasi mentioned that in the third phase of renovation, 40 rooms at Samudra Kovalam had been refurbished in line with modern aesthetic concepts. He further added that in the next phase, 24 more rooms of the resort, considered a model for beach tourism, will undergo renovation.

Situated on a sprawling coconut tree-lined site overlooking the Arabian Sea, Samudra Kovalam has long been synonymous with Kerala's highly successful beach tourism. The recent round of renovation, completed with a budget of ₹12.68 crore provided by the state government, added another 40 rooms to the property, making it an ideal locale for high-end weddings and MICE tourism. The renovation was carried out with careful planning and design, considering the property's potential to host international conferences against the backdrop of its refreshing natural setting.

A significant advantage of the property is that all its rooms offer a sea-facing view. The renovated Samudra Kovalam now features high-end options such as Sea View Cottages, Superior Sea View and Premium Pool View rooms, along with a lawn area for guests to relax, providing a unique and enhanced experience for visitors.
