Avery Dennison unveils its plant in Ranjangaon

Pune: Avery Dennison Corporation inaugurated its new production facility in Ranjangaon near Pune. The new facility will produce advanced pressure-sensitive materials such as labeling materials, retail tag, ticketing and branding systems, for industrial and consumer products manufactured in the Asia Pacific region. Talking to presspersons, Mr. Dean A. Scarborough, President and Chief Executive Officer of Avery Dennison and Mr Raj Srinivasan, Managing Director, Materials, India, said this is the third major facility in India and represents an investment of over $13 million. It may be noted that the company in 1997 started the Gurgaon facility and in June 2007 acquired the Bangalore-based Paxar, the label and tag maker.

Mr Dean said the Pune plant is spread over 28 acres and included a new hot melt tandem coating line thus bringing in Avery Dennison Roll Materials Group’s total investment in India to more than $30 million. The business units that are present include roll materials, graphics, speciality tape and retail information services.

According to Mr Raj, the group also has other business units such as printing, which is not present in both the facilities. Mr Dean said about 65 per cent of the sales was outside of the US and 25 per cent was from the emerging markets. Sales in South Asia, which included the markets of India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan had accounted for $100 million and was growing at a rate of 35 per cent per annum. He added that the company has on its rolls over 1,200 people in India and more than 2,500 in South Asia.

Based in Pasadena, California, Avery Dennison had recorded sales of $5.6 billion in 2006.
