Ken, Betwa rivers to be inter-linked first: Uma

Minister for water resources Uma Bharti said that Ken and Betwa rivers would be inter-linked first under inter-linking of river project. She said that the government had identified 30 inter-state rivers which were to be inter-linked. The detailed project reports (DPR) of these rivers were ready and work on these projects would start soon, she added.

She said that her ministry has received 46 proposals from various states for inter-linking of rivers. 'Ken-Betwa river linking project has always been the NDA government's dream project but the UPA-II government had put the project on back-burner because the then Union minister for environment and forests Jairam Ramesh, during his first visit to Bundelkhand region in 2011, had threw spanner in the the project by terming it as 'disastrous'.
