India to provide first railway link to Bhutan

New Delhi: Bhutan will have its first railway link with India covering 18kms. Under the proposed project, the Golden Jubilee Rail Line will begin from Hasimara in West Bengal and go through Satali, Bharna Bari and Dalsingpara to Toribari in Bhutan. Broad gauge will be used for the new railway line.

The first railway station in Bhutan will be developed at Toribari near the Pasakha industrial estate. Rail India Technical and Economical Services will come up with a design of the station with actual route alignment in a few months. The project worth £120 million will be funded by India.

The railways have also proposed to link Nepal from Nautanwa and Nepalganj Road in Uttar Pradesh as well as from New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal to Kakarbhitta in Nepal.
