Hindustan Construction Company Ltd (HCC) recently announced that it has secured a tunnel construction contract worth ₹901 crore from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), further strengthening its presence in railway infrastructure projects.
The contract has been awarded to the HCC–VCCL Joint Venture, in which HCC holds a 65 per cent stake. The project involves the construction of New Tunnel 28 on the Tupul–Imphal new broad gauge railway line, a key connectivity project in the Northeast.

This covers the design and proof-checking of a broad-gauge ballast-less track, followed by the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of all systems and structures necessary for railway operations.
In addition, the contract encompasses the design, supply, erection and commissioning of tunnel ventilation systems, complete electro-mechanical works, and the construction of approach roads and other ancillary infrastructure to ensure seamless integration of the project. The company did not disclose the timeline for completion of the project.
As of November 2025, transport infrastructure projects accounted for about 63 per cent of HCC’s total order book, which stands at ₹13,152 crore.
