Government Aims to Expand Parvatmala Pariyojana, Targeting 400 Projects

In a strategic move to bolster national infrastructure, the government has unveiled plans to escalate the number of projects under the Parvatmala Pariyojana, the national ropeways development programme, to a minimum of 400 over the next five years. Union minister Nitin Gadkari, emphasizing the significance of the initiative, revealed that projects worth Rs. 1.25 lakh crore have already been identified under the Pariyojana, with the potential for further expansion.

"The Parvatmala project, which we have started under the guidance of the prime minister, is very important for the country. We have identified...projects worth Rs 1.25 lakh crore (under the Pariyojana) and the number of such projects can increase to 400 or more," said Gadkari at an event.

Last year, the government had announced its ambition to develop over 250 projects, encompassing a ropeway length exceeding 1,200 kilometres, within a five-year timeframe under the Parvatmala Pariyojana. This initiative aligns with the 'Make in India' campaign, emphasizing the domestic manufacturing of ropeway components.

Gadkari, highlighting India's position as one of the fastest-growing economies globally, stressed the urgent need for robust infrastructure development. "Today ours is the fifth position....and we will be third in the next five years...that is the reason we are developing world-class infrastructure in the country," stated the Road Transport and Highways minister.

Addressing traffic congestion concerns in the national capital region, Gadkari proposed innovative solutions, suggesting the implementation of a sky bus running on a single pillar or the introduction of a double-decker bus service on the Dhaula Kuan-Manesar stretch. Such measures, he believes, would not only alleviate traffic but also ensure timely commuting for the public.
