Elgi Equipments joins hands with German co

Coimbatore: Coimbatore-based air compressor manufacturer Elgi Equipments (EEL) has formed a joint venture company with J P Sauer & Sohn of Germany for the manufacture of air compressors to meet the requirements of the navy and ship yards.

The new manufacturing facility would come up at Coimbatore.

Explaining the advantages of the joint venture with the German company, Dr Jairam Varadaraj, Managing Director, EEL, said it would help bring more “advanced technology, a wider range of products, increased availability due to indigenisation and better product support for Indian Navy, marine and special applications in domestic industry”.

The German company was a market leader in high-pressure air compressors for naval, marine and industrial applications and has a wide presence in NATO navies, shipyards and industries worldwide. Since both companies have a synergy in their operations, they entered into a joint venture complementing each other.

Mr V.T. Govindarajan, Director (Global Business), EEL, said since 2004 Elgi has been marketing the Sauer range of high-pressure compressors along with its own air-cooled and water-cooled technology compressors and the sales collaboration has culminated in a joint venture with J P Sauer.

In the last financial year the partnership brought in sales of Rs 10 crore.

This proposed venture christened ‘Elgi Sauer Compressors Ltd’ is scheduled to commence the operations soon, according to a company release.
