CDA plans to install more tubewells

Islamabad: In order to meet the growing water shortage in the federal Capital the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has planned to install more tube-wells in different areas.

A CDA official said that the authority had already installed around 187 tube-wells in different parts of the city, mostly on the banks of different nullahs.

“We get 75 percent of our water from dams being rain-fed while rest of the water need is fulfilled by tube-wells and other sources,” the official said.

He said that the present power crisis had badly affected water supply to various sectors, especially the `I’ series.

“Although tube-wells have been installed in residential sectors, acute load shedding disrupts the supplies to the residents,” he said.

He said that a request had been made to Islamabad Electricity Supply Company (IESCO) for reduction in duration of load shedding.

The CDA, on the other hand, is also thinking of looking into generating its own electricity considering the pace at which the town is expanding. “We are seriously thinking about this option,” the official said.

Zero Point Interchange project The CDA has floated tenders for construction of the ambitious Zero Point Interchange project. The tenders were floated after the government lifted ban on tenders of above Rs 50 million projects.

A senior CDA official said the authority had already pre-qualified five firms and only one of them would be shortlisted after opening of the tenders next month.
