Britannia looking to invest around ₹450 crore in three greenfield plants.
Biscuit major Britannia is looking to invest close to Rs. 450 crore to set up three Greenfield plants in India over the next three years.
North East, preferably, Guwahati; Andhra Pradesh and Mudhra in Gujarat are said to be the three probable places for the units. Each unit will entail an investment of apprx Rs. 150 crore.
A fourth unit, in Bengal, with a similar investment is also being mulled, Varun Berry, Managing Director, Britannia, said. Berry was in the city to attend the company's 97th AGM.
“Ideally, we spend anywhere between Rs. 100 crore and Rs. 150 crore to set up a unit. Normally, it takes close to 12 to 14 months for a factory to come up,” he said.
According to Berry, the Greenfield Bengal unit is still in the planning stages. The company will approach the state government “next year” for setting up a unit on 20-odd acres of land.
Britannia currently has 37 manufacturing units of which 14 are company owned. Six of these units are located in the East that include three in Kolkata, two each in Odisha and Bihar and one in Assam.
The company’s production capacity across these 37 unit stand at one million tonnes.
“An eight to 10 per cent growth in volume will mean an addition of 100,000 tonnes per year,” Berry said without mentioning the exact capacities the upcoming plants
