"Adani Power to Continue Supplying Electricity to Bangladesh from Jharkhand Plant"

Adani Power announced on Friday that it will continue supplying 100% of the electricity generated by its 1,600 MW Jharkhand plant to Bangladesh. This commitment comes despite recent amendments to India's power import/export guidelines, which now allow export-oriented plants to sell power within India under certain conditions.

The recent guideline changes permit the connection of export-oriented generating stations to the Indian grid if there is sustained non-scheduling of capacity or default notices, including delayed payments under power purchase agreements (PPAs). This adjustment aims to streamline power export processes while maintaining existing arrangements.

Adani Power's Godda plant, dedicated solely to supplying power to Bangladesh, remains a unique case in India. The company assured that it will continue to deliver uninterrupted power to Bangladesh as per its contractual obligations and the Bangladesh Power Development Board's (BPDB) demand schedule.

The government’s decision to permit such plants to supply power domestically follows a recent political crisis in Bangladesh and India’s drive to become a zero-deficit power supply nation amidst rising demand. India's power demand reached a record 250 GW in May, with expectations that peak demand could hit 260 GW during the summer season.
