₹ 4.30 crore surplus budget for Hubballi-Dharwad.
A ₹ 4.30-crore surplus budget of the Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation with a proposal to constitute a monitoring committee to ensure effective implementation of the budget proposals was presented here on Monday.
Presenting the budget in the municipal council as newly elected Mayor D.K. Chavan presided over his first council meeting, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Taxation, Finance and Appeals and former Mayor Viranna Savadi said that apart from new proposals, he proposed to set up a monitoring committee comprising councillors to ensure that the budget proposals were implemented effectively and targets pertaining to revenue collection were achieved.
The budget for the 2017-18 fiscal has receipts of ₹ 548.26 crore and an expenditure of ₹ 543.95 crore.
As per the budget, the municipal corporation plans to generate a revenue of ₹ 129 crore from its sources and is expecting grants of ₹ 255.23 crores which include salary grants and pension grants.
The corporation has earmarked ₹ 36 crore for solid waste management and ₹. 60.77 crore for development of roads and pavements. While ₹ 24.06 crore is being spent for development of underground drainage and storm water drainages (nala), it will spend ₹ 14.26 crore for maintenance of public structures.
Making his budget speech, Mr. Savadi said that the old commercial complexes owned by the corporation would be rebuilt at a cost of ₹ 5 crore and two new gymnasiums would be built at a cost of ₹ 25 lakh each.
Mr. Savadi announced setting up of generic medicine stores on the premises of municipal corporation hospitals in Hubballi and Dharwad. He said that under Digital India, Point of Sale (PoS) swipe machines would be provided at the zonal offices and headquarters of the municipal corporation.
He said that in the wake of complaints about budget proposals not being implemented, it had been decided to constitute a monitoring committee to oversee the implementation of the proposals.
