Zamil Steel unveils first facility in India

Pune: Zamil Steel, part of the Saudi Arabian industrial conglomerate, announced the launch of its first facility in India for the manufacture of pre-engineered buildings (PEBs). A second facility is also on the anvil.

Mr Adnan Al-Mansour, President, Zamil Steel Industrial Company, said, “We want to be part of India’s infrastructure growth by bringing in international products to match with local needs.”

Located at Ranjagaon, the new plant has been set up with an investment of $32 million, and has an installed capacity to manufacture 30,000 tonnes of pre-engineered buildings annually. The company is also planning to set up a second PEB manufacturing facility in the country by 2010.

“This will involve a similar investment and most probably be located in the southern part of the country,” Mr Gandhi Tayoun, Managing Director, Zamil Steel India, said.

The company, which has been supplying PEBs in India since 1994, has executed 38 projects so far including garment factories in the South and workshops for a tractor manufacturer in Faridabad. “We have 42 projects in hand as of now,” Mr Tayoun said.

PEB is Zamil Steel’s flagship division, and since 1977 has executed 50,000 projects in 92 countries worldwide. PEB systems are mainly suitable for industrial buildings, commercial projects, recreational spaces, aviation and military units, and almost any low rise building (up to 4 storeys) that require large open spaces.

The company is also planning to bring its remaining three divisions Structural Steel, Towers and Galvanizing and Canam Joists and Decking into India over a period of time.
