Work on Sabari railway line to be speeded up.

A public meeting chaired by District Collector K. Mohammed Y. Safirulla and attended by Innocent, MP, has decided to speed up work, including the process of acquiring land, in the Angamaly-Kalady reach of the proposed Sabari railway line.

A proposal to reopen the land acquisition offices that were closed would be submitted to the government, said a press release here. A total of 132 hectares in Muvattupuzha, Kothamangalam and Kunnathunad taluks will have to be acquired for the railway line. A total of 47 km will be the length of the line in this reach.

Land acquisition offices in Perumbavoor and Muvattupuzha have to be reopened. The Railways had sanctioned ₹40 crore for preliminary work. Besides repairing roads along the Kalady-Nayathode stretch, overbridges and underpasses had to be built, the press release added.

The meeting also decided to start a survey for a new Kalady bridge. A PWD official present at the meeting said that the alignment had been fixed already. The State government had sanctioned ₹42 crore for the bridge work, the release added.
