Videocon to invest Rs. 340 cr on Internet services.

Videocon Telecom will invest about Rs. 340 crore over the next one year to launch internet services across six-seven circles in the country.

The company's internet service provider (ISP) arm Connect Broadband has been awarded a Unified License - ISP (Category-A), which permits it to offer internet services all over the country, Videocon Telecom said in a statement.

'Internet is the next big thing in India and the opportunity is immense. Our strategy is to enter this marketing at the right time, and all indications suggest that there could have not been a better time than this to enter the market,' said Arvind Bali, director and CEO at Videocon Telecom.

The telecom company plans to rollout the services starting with its existing GSM mobility circles, including Haryana, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh (including Chhattisgarh). This will be followed by launch across the metros and Tier-I cities. The investment includes cost of ISP license, cost of network deployment and investment in hotspots among others, and plans to follow the aggressive data play strategy.

The company, which had earlier launched Fibre To The Endpoint (FTTX services) in Punjab, intends to extend these services across the country. Further, it also intends to provide other services such as Internet-leased lines, point-to-point leased circuits, hosted and cloud services among others.
