UPSIDC identifies site for leather park

Kanpur: The Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation (UPSIDC) has identified the site for the much-awaited leather park in the Unnao district of the state.

The park is being envisaged as a one-stop centre for all the infrastructural and manpower requirements of the leather industry in the region.

The four-member team, comprising the regional manager of UPSIDC, executive engineer, Unnao's additional district majistrate (ADM) and the district's industrial director, submitted its final recommendation to the ministry. Chamrauli in Unnao district has been chosen as the appropriate site for the park spread, which is to come up in over 3,000 acres.

'Chamrauli has ample fallow land, which could be acquired without difficulty, and the place is also well-connected with Lucknow and Kanpur,' said UPSIDC Regional Manager Santosh Kumar.

The proposed park will lend space to about 3,000 small and large leather industrial units and is expected to provide employment to about 60,000 workers.

The park would be the first to provide residential facilities to the workers. 'The industrialists from Kanpur can shift to the park, if they wish to,' he said.

According to the industrial director of Unnao district, sufficient fallow land is available in Chamrauli, which can be used and acquired without much problem.

Kumar added that the process of land acquisition has begun and about 60 per cent of the area would be allotted to industries.
