Union Government Constructs Four Sewerage Infrastructure Projects in UP and Bihar at ₹492 Crore.

The Ministry of Jal Shakti announced on Thursday the completion of four significant sewerage infrastructure projects in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar during the second quarter of the financial year 2024-25. These initiatives, totaling ₹492 crore, aim to rejuvenate rivers, enhance water quality, and prevent sewage contamination.

The details of the projects are as follows:





  1. Patna-Danapur, Bihar: A 25 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and an Interception and Diversion (I&D) network have been completed at a cost of ₹103 crore.




  2. Patna-Maner, Bihar: A 6.5 MLD STP along with an I&D network was finished for ₹70 crore.




  3. Kairana, Uttar Pradesh: A 15 MLD STP and I&D network were successfully completed for ₹78 crore, utilizing the Design, Build, Operate, and Transfer (DBOT) model, specifically for the Yamuna River.




  4. Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: A 39 MLD STP was completed at a cost of ₹241 crore, as part of a major initiative to revitalize the Gomti River.





The ministry's release noted that an agreement has been signed for the development of a project in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, approved under the Namami Gange-II program with financial backing from the World Bank. This tripartite agreement involves the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam (Rural), and M/s EIEL Infra Engineers (Saharanpur) Pvt Ltd, a consortium comprising M/s Enviro Infra Engineers Ltd, M/s Bhugan Infracon Pvt Ltd, and M/s Micro Transmission Systems SPV.

This project, valued at ₹344 crore, includes the construction of a 135 MLD STP, sewage pumping stations, and interception structures. It will operate under a hybrid annuity Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with a provision for 15 years of operation and maintenance.
