"UltraTech Cement to Invest ₹13,000 Crore in Capacity Expansion"

"UltraTech Cement to Invest ₹13,000 Crore in Capacity Expansion"

UltraTech Cement, the flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, has set its sights on a substantial investment of ₹13,000 crore to embark on the third phase of its capacity expansion, targeting an impressive 21.9 million. This monumental decision received the green light from the company's Board of Directors during a meeting convened on a recent Saturday.

This ambitious expansion endeavor will encompass a combination of fresh projects and brownfield expansion initiatives. Notably, in alignment with UltraTech's commitment to environmental sustainability and reducing carbon emissions, the company has opted to abstain from investing in thermal power capacity. Instead, the expansion strategy will include the establishment of a 39 MW Waste Heat Recovery System, with an allocation of ₹453 crore, as well as a budget of ₹180 crore for alternative fuel feeding and handling equipment.

The move towards sustainable energy solutions is a pivotal element of UltraTech's vision, aiming to utilize over 60 percent of green energy by the conclusion of 2027. This goal will be fortified by the installation of a Waste Heat Recovery System (WHRS) capacity exceeding 400 MW and a substantial renewable energy capacity of approximately 1.5 GW.

Upon the successful implementation of the third phase of expansion, UltraTech Cement will significantly enhance its presence across various regions of India. The projected capacity distribution includes 35.5 million metric tonnes per annum (mtpa) in the South, 40.4 mtpa in the East, 36.2 mtpa in the North, 35.7 mtpa in the Central region, and 33.8 mtpa in the Western region. To realize this extensive growth, the company will establish four greenfield and four brownfield plants, in addition to four greenfield bulk terminals.

The company anticipates that the commercial production from these new capacities will commence in a phased manner starting from the fiscal year 2026. This bold expansion initiative is expected to catapult UltraTech Cement's global cement capacity to a formidable 187 mtpa, solidifying its position as a key player in the industry.
