"Two Firms Appointed to Prepare DPR for Revival of VISPL Steel: HD Kumaraswamy".

Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, HD Kumaraswamy, recently announced that the Visvesvaraya Iron and Steel Plant (VISPL) will be revived at a cost of ₹4,000 crore. The minister said a detailed project report (DPR) for the first phase will be prepared to ensure the factory remains operational for the next 40 years. Two companies have been tasked with preparing the DPR, focusing on technological advancements.

“We will revive and develop the plant in many phases, with the confidence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Kumaraswamy said. He added that he plans to return in January-February, and that the DPR has been prepared for the development of three sectors in the first phase.

Kumaraswamy also criticised the Karnataka government, alleging failures at multiple levels. He pointed out that despite budget allocations, no department has spent even 45% of its budget, highlighting what he described as the government's “pathetic state.”

The minister further raised concerns over law and order in the state. He cited incidents including a mobile phone being found with a terrorist in Parappana Agrahara prison, a police constable’s involvement in a robbery, and recent robberies in Davanagere, Vijayapura, and Bengaluru.

Questioning the Congress party’s claim of returning to power in 2028, Kumaraswamy described it as a distant goal. He also stressed the need for the government to address the threat posed by wild animals in certain districts, warning that compensation alone cannot bring back lost lives.
