Uttar Pradesh Announces ₹17,865 Crore Supplementary Budget for Power and Infrastructure Boost.

The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, recently presented its second supplementary budget for the fiscal year, totaling ₹17,865.72 crore, with a focus on the power sector and infrastructure development. This supplementary budget includes new proposals worth ₹790 crore.

This follows the main budget presented in February, which amounted to over ₹7.36 lakh crore, and a previous supplementary budget of ₹12,209 crore tabled on July 30. The second supplementary budget represents 2.42% of the original budget.

Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna, while presenting the budget in the presence of CM Adityanath, reaffirmed the government's commitment to development and progress. He emphasized the government's constitutional right to present supplementary budgets as needed.

A significant portion of the supplementary budget was allocated to key departments: ₹8,587 crore for the energy department, ₹2,438 crore for the finance department, ₹1,592 crore for family welfare, and ₹1,001 crore for animal husbandry. Other departments such as Public Works, Primary Education, and Medical Education also received substantial allocations, with ₹805 crore, ₹515 crore, and ₹354 crore, respectively.

Khanna further outlined that in addition to the new proposals, ₹422.56 crore has been earmarked for the central share under various central schemes. The budget also includes provisions to reimburse ₹30.48 crore previously taken from the contingency fund.

The supplementary budget was unanimously approved during a cabinet meeting chaired by CM Adityanath earlier in the day, prior to the commencement of the House proceedings.
