Tudor India plans Rs 35-cr capacity expansion

Ahmedabad: Tudor India Ltd (TIL), makers of the Prestolite brand of lead-acid batteries for both automotive and inverter applications, today announced plans to invest Rs 35 crore for capacity expansion at its transportation manufacturing facility in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

The company is investing in equipment upgrades, line expansions, infrastructure and utilities to increase operational capacity from six lakh batteries to ten lakh per year, a company release said.

TIL is the Indian arm of Chloride Motive Power Batteries, UK, a wholly owned subsidiary of Alpharetta-Georgia, the US-based global leader in stored electrical energy solutions.

The capacity expansion plan, expected to be completed by June 2008, would allow for the production of innovative products in wet form for original equipment and aftermarket customers in the region.

Mr Luke Lu, President, Asia Pacific for Alpharetta-Georgia, said the expansion is part of the company’s overall strategy that focuses on taking advantage of profitable growth opportunities, both in manufacturing and global sourcing, particularly in India and China.
