TIDCO Centre of Excellence Signs MoU with CSIR
On Tuesday, the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) Centre of Excellence (CoE) took a significant step towards enhancing industrial research and technology commercialization by signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR). The agreements involve CSIR's constituent laboratory, the Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIR-CSIO), based in Chandigarh, and its regional centre at CSIR Campus Taramani, Chennai.
TIDCO's CoEs - TANSAM, TANCAM, and TAMCOE, in collaboration with Siemens, Dassault Systemes, and GE Aerospace respectively, have been pivotal in fostering innovation and facilitating the adoption of Industry 4.0 practices across Tamil Nadu. With a combined project cost of ₹600 crore, these centres have played a crucial role in advancing the state's capabilities in advanced manufacturing, benefiting industry, academia, MSMEs, startups, and government agencies alike. They have also established spokes at various academic institutions statewide to extend their expertise and technologies to students for capacity building and bridging the academia-industry gap.
According to a press release, the MoUs aim to facilitate the exchange of expertise, domain knowledge, and shared facilities in agreed research areas between CSIR-CSIO and TIDCO's CoEs. Key focus areas include engineering, biomedical applications, instrumentation, control systems, Industry 4.0, energy management, material sciences, intelligent sensors, AI development, micro and nano optics, and additive manufacturing, among others.
The collaboration will enable joint research initiatives leading to the development of new technologies and intellectual property (IP) creation. It will also support technical consultancy projects, feasibility studies, pilot projects, prototype validation, and deployment in industrial settings. Moreover, the MoU seeks to strengthen interactions between TIDCO's CoEs, CSIR-CSIO, academia, MSMEs, startups, scientists, engineers, and research scholars through various joint activities and initiatives.
This partnership marks a significant stride towards fostering innovation and advancing industrial capabilities in Tamil Nadu, bolstered by collaborative efforts in cutting-edge research and technology development.
