Tata Motors bags hybrid buses order from MMRDA.

In the single-largest order awarded for hybrid electric vehicles, Tata Motors has won a contract to supply 25 Starbus diesel series hybrid electric buses from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.

A fleet of 10 Tata Hybrid buses are already operating in Madrid, Spain.

The buses, with low-floor configuration, will be used for improving feeder services. MMRDA will connect Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) to Sion, Bandra and Kurla railways stations in one year, Tata Motors said in a statement.

Developed indigenously, these buses offer lowest cost of ownership, with improved fuel savings of the order of 25-30 per cent, reduction in emissions in comparison to conventional buses and runs on pure electric mode.
