Sureka group to develop township in Kolkata

Kolkata: Kolkata-based Sureka Group plans to develop a township spread over 100-150 acre near Kolkata over the next two- three years.

Speaking on the sidelines of a press conference to announce the launch of a housing complex at Baruipur by Bengal Park Chambers Housing Development Ltd, the 50:50 joint venture company between the West Bengal Housing Board (WBHB) and the Sureka Group, Pradeep Sureka, managing director of the company, said the project cost of the township would be close to Rs 300 crore.

Sureka refused to disclose the location of the project, but said he was in the process of land acquisition for the township.Also, Bengal Park Chambers Housing Development Ltd is planning to build about 2,000 housing units in and around West Bengal, starting next fiscal, with an estimated cost of Rs 1,000 crore.

About 50 per cent of the units would be in the middle income group (MIG) and low income group (LIG) categories, said Sureka.

Sunrise Junction, spread over six acres, will have 448 apartments, in two categories, viz, two bedroom flat, priced at Rs 5.50 lakh and one bedroom flat for Rs 2.60 lakh, and slated to be completed by 2010.

Sureka Group, a part of several real estate consortium like South City, is executing projects worth Rs 1,000 crore in West Bengal at present, with about Rs 500 crore worth projects in the housing sector.

The company is also building a hospital, Global Hospital, at Rajarhat, with an investment of Rs 200 crore.
