SSI to implement DST project

Tiruchi: The Tiruchi District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association has expressed readiness to implement the Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development project, sponsored by the Delhi-based Department of Science and Technology (DST), in Perambalur district.

The DST is said to be considering the association’s proposal. The focus is likely to be on food processing and handicrafts. The association will look forward to integration of artisans of Arumbakur region, famed for wood and stone sculpting, into mainstream export business.

A study would be undertaken to identify potential areas, according to the association President, Mr S. Sridharan. The association will play the role of the mentor by disseminating information and training entrepreneurs.

The entrepreneurs will receive guidance for preparing project reports and securing bank loans and subsidies.
