'Snehapatha' tourism project from February.

The work of the first tourism project to be initiated under Nila heritage tourism project, 'Snehapatha', would be inaugurated soon.

The tourism project on the banks of Bharathappuzha is being set up near the reservoir area of the Chamravattom regulator-cum-bridge near Ponnani. Local MLA, K T Jaleel reviewed the progress of the project two days ago and informed that 'Snehapatha' would be thrown open for public in February.

As part of the first phase of the project, a walk way, water front park, rain shelters, open air auditorium, observation tower and children's park were constructed in a one kilometre area along the river bank. The authorities are also planning to construct a shuttle court in first phase of the project. The total estimated cost of the project is Rs 4 crore.

MLA said that the works of observation tower, auditorium, walkway and shelters have been completed and other works are in final stage. 'The project which would be a major boost to the tourism development in the region, would be inaugurated in Februray', he said.

A tourism corridor along the banks of the river, from Ponnani to Kuttippuram, linking all heritage sites, pilgrims centres, and backwater tourism spots in the region is already under the active consideration of the department and the initial phases for the implementation of the project are over.

The 500-year-old Ponnani Juma Masjid, Thripprangodu Shiva temple, Thirunavaya Navamukunda temple, Alathiyoor Hanumankavu, and other major pilgrims centres are the tourist attractions in the corridor. It is expected that the Snehapatha project would also be a part of the Nila tourism corridor project.
