Service lanes to be widened to decongest Gurgaon expressway.
To accommodate the growing traffic on National Highway-8 in Gurgaon, the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) plans to widen the service lanes on both sides of the expressway. Besides, the authorities also plan to widen the points where traffic enters or exits the service lanes.
'The service lanes are extremely narrow resulting in major congestion at some junctions. We have asked HUDA's engineering wing to widen the service lanes,' Anita Yadav, administrator (HUDA), said.
Under the proposed plan, in which the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will assist HUDA, the service lanes will be widened from the Sarhaul toll plaza (the point that marks the entry into Gurgaon) till Rajiv Chowk.
'Serpentine traffic and rising number of accidents on the stretch prompted HUDA to give the green signal to widening the service lanes. Moreover, the Gurgaon Police had suggested widening of the service lanes two years ago, but the matter had been pending since then,' a senior traffic police officer said.
