"SCCL Advances Green Initiative: Unveils 10 MW Solar PV Project"
Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), a government coal mining entity jointly owned by the Government of Telangana and the Government of India, continues its stride toward diversification into the solar PV power sector.
On Sunday, the Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana and the in-charge of the Energy portfolio, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, inaugurated a 10.5 MW solar plant in Kothagudem, Telangana. Addressing the event, Bhatti emphasized the state's commitment to formulating an energy policy that prioritizes green energy initiatives.
SCCL, contributing 9% to India's coal production and possessing approximately 7% of the country's coal reserves, has embarked on solar power generation to promote renewable energy and mitigate carbon emissions, according to company officials.
The company has already operationalized 224 MW of solar PV power plants. With the latest addition of the 10.5 MW plant, SCCL's cumulative commissioned solar PV capacity reaches 234.5 MW, out of the approved 300 MW capacity sanctioned by the Telangana government. This initiative aims to fulfill SCCL's captive power requirements, subsequently reducing its power consumption expenses.
By setting up 300 MW of captive solar PV power plants, SCCL estimates significant savings. The company's total annual energy consumption stands at 700 million units, while the annual solar energy generation is projected to reach 450 million units.
Moreover, SCCL is availing carbon credits under the GCC mechanism, facilitated by the Global Carbon Council (GCC), an initiative of the Gulf Organization for Research and Development (GORD).
While emphasizing green energy initiatives, SCCL is also prioritizing human resources and operational efficiency. During a recent review meeting on Singareni Development and Welfare Initiatives, the Deputy Chief Minister directed Singareni Chairman and Managing Director Balaram Naik to expedite the recruitment process for 317 direct recruitment positions and 168 internal recruitment positions within Singareni Collieries, ensuring continued organizational growth and welfare.
