Rs. 4,754-cr power transmission scheme for North-East approved.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved a Rs. 4,754-crore scheme to strengthen the power transmission and distribution system in the North-Eastern region.

To be implemented under a new Central Sector Plan Scheme of Ministry of Power, the project will be called Comprehensive Scheme for Strengthening of Transmission and Distribution Systems.

The approval comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the North East. Primarily a power-surplus region, the North-East suffers due tolack of transmission infrastructure.
