Renault sets up logistics unit in India

New Delhi: Renault has set up a logistics facility in India which it said will be a part of its global supply network and should contribute about 200 million euros ($315 million) worth of component exports by end-2009.

The French vehicle maker, which has a joint venture with India's Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd for the Logan sedan, is also developing a low-cost car with Nissan Motor Co and Indian motorbike maker Bajaj Auto Ltd.

Renault, which also has a satellite design centre in India, said in a statement it would export finished components to manufacturing facilities around the world from the new logistics centre in Pune.

'While the needs of Indian automotive buyers will be addressed through the Renault range of passenger vehicles, the Pune facility will help support the international development of Renault,' said Sylvain Bilaine, managing director for India.

'Within the next 3-5 years, India will make a strong contribution to Renault worldwide.'
