PRT completes 246 projects in Kapisa

Bagram Airbase: With a mission to extend the reach and legitimacy of the government of Afghanistan, the Parwan/Kapisa Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) has so far completed 246 reconstruction projects in the two central provinces.

Captain Peter the public relation officer in an exclusive interview said the PRT has been focusing on three different lines which are 1: good governance, 2: reconstructions and 3: security.

'We understand that if we not fully engage with the local people, the public representatives, provincial councils and districts council our efforts would not yield the desired results of establishing a free and independent society in Afghanistan,' he maintained.

He said for evaluating the needs and demands of the people at the gross root level the PRT has organized various teams in the two provinces.

Giving the details of the reconstruction projects he said 164 projects at a cost of 10,834,981 dollars have been completed in Parwan province while 30 projects with a cost of 10,290,883 dollars are under construction and 18 projects with a cost of 4,652,585 are in the pipe line.

Similarly in Kapisa province 82 projects having a cost of 5,306,768 dollars have been completed 37 costing $7,580,658 are under construction and 24 projects costing $19,687,283 are in the pipe line.

He said these projects include 107 education projects, 64 transportation, 42 water, 35 governance, 32 health projects and 20 agriculture schemes.

'We also work for improving the security situation in the area especially counter insurgency, judiciary, criminal justice, law enforcement and rule of law,' he added.

He said though the PRT operates in a volatile threat environment, conducting civil affairs operations to extend the reach and legitimacy of Afghan government but also appreciated the response and support of the general public of Afghanistan in the rebuilding process.

When asked whether there are any cultural or media projects in the two provinces Peter said they were planning a radio and TV station in Kapisa and Parwan provinces.
