Power Min wants 8 mmscmd gas for power projects

The power ministry has asked oil ministry to immediately release 8 mmscmd of gas to fuel power projects, It is learnt that 10 power plants including NTPC and Andhra plants are in dire need of gas.

Sources also add that 4000 MW of NTPC's capacity addition is in jeopardy due to lack of gas. This is not all. As per sources, 3500 MW capacity may be stranded in the 11th plan for shortage of gas. The situation is so bleak that all existing gas-based power plants are operating at 50% capacity.
