Ports Authority grabs historic record

Columbo: Ever highest monthly container throughput in the history of the port of Colombo was recorded in July 2007 which is 304,625 TEUs. It was 3,701 TEUs higher than the last highest monthly throughput (300,924 TEUs) achieved in August 2006.

Port of Colombo has handled 1,930,027 TEUs during the first seven months of 2007 reflecting an increase of 14.2 per cent when compared with the last year corresponding volume.

Transshipment container throughput (including re-stow) which accounts for 76.3 per cent of the total Colombo volume had a growth of 16.5. The domestic volume has reported an increase of 7.3 per cent.

Sri Lanka Ports Authority has handled 1,067,647 TEUs during the first seven months of 2007 reflecting an increase of 9.7 per cent when compared with the last year corresponding volume.

Unity Container Terminals recorded its ever highest monthly container volume (20,395 TEUs) during the month of July 2007.

Unity Container Terminals was able to maintain a continuous higher growth rate throughput the first seven months of the year 2007 when compared with last years corresponding volume.

Total cargo tonnage handled in Colombo port during the first seven months in 2007 has increased to 25,043 thousand tonnes, from that of previous year 22,443 thousand tonnes reflecting an increase of 11.6 per cent. Containerized cargo tonnage has recorded a considerably higher growth (14.9 per cent).
