Pak: 40 wind turbine to generate electicity

Karachi: To cater the power crisis at least 40 wind turbines of 10 to 250 KW in different areas of the city, will start electricity generation in summer this year, as phase-1 of Wind Energy Project (WEP).

UNDP Wind Energy Project in collaboration with AEDB was now busy to remove the policy and barriers and create an investment environment for the development of commercial scale wind power projects in Pakistan, Arif Alauddin, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) said while addressing a seminar on 'Tariff Mechanism for Renewable Energy Technologies'.

He said that AEDB has made government realise the importance, need and significance of renewable energy in Pakistan and it has yielded significant achievements in this sector. 'We want to make effective policy and incentives, including piloting and appropriate tariff level and structure applicable to wind power IPPs,' CEO said.
