NTPC Targets Adding 5 GW Capacity in FY25

State-owned NTPC announced on Monday its ambitious plan to increase its installed capacity by 5 gigawatts (GW) in the upcoming fiscal year, demonstrating its unwavering dedication to delivering clean, reliable, and cost-effective energy solutions to the nation.

With a focus on environmental sustainability, NTPC aims to augment its renewable energy (RE) capacity by 3 GW, underscoring its commitment to promoting green energy initiatives.

Concurrently, the power generation giant intends to bolster its thermal energy capacity by an additional 2 GW, contributing to the reinforcement of India's energy infrastructure.

In the preceding fiscal year, FY24, NTPC made significant strides by successfully integrating 3,924 megawatts (MW) of new capacity into its portfolio, elevating its cumulative installed capacity to nearly 76 GW. Currently, the group boasts an operational RE capacity of 3.5 GW, with an extensive pipeline exceeding 20 GW.

Looking ahead, NTPC has set ambitious targets to expand its non-fossil fuel-based capacity to encompass 45-50 percent of the company's portfolio by 2032. This strategic vision includes the establishment of a 60 GW RE capacity, with the overarching goal of achieving a total portfolio of 130 GW.

Furthermore, NTPC has set its sights on producing 40 million tonnes (MT) of coal from its captive mines within the current financial year, ending March 2025. This targeted output will represent 15 percent of NTPC's annual coal requirement.

In FY24, the company achieved commendable milestones in coal production and dispatch, with coal despatches amounting to 34.15 MT and coal production reaching 34.38 MT, reflecting NTPC's operational efficiency and commitment to meeting its energy needs.
