NTPC powers up on renewable energy.
NTPC, the country's largest power generator, plans to build a 1,000-MW renewable energy portfolio in the near term.
The state-run company, with an installed capacity of 42,500 MW, is currently implementing several solar photovoltaic (PV) projects, an innovative solar thermal project, a geothermal project and two wind farms of 40 MW each.
'We have commissioned a 10 MW solar PV unit in Ramagundam (Andhra Pradesh) taking the installed capacity to 20 MW, which includes 5 MW at Andaman & Nicobar and another 5 MW unit at Dadri project (in Uttar Pradesh),' said AK Jha, Director, Technical, NTPC.
About 90 MW of solar PV projects are under construction at various locations including Talcher (Odisha), Singrauli (Madhya Pradesh), Faridabad (Haryana), Unchahar (Uttar Pradesh) and another 50 MW solar PV unit at Rajgarh in Madhya Pradesh.
