NR General Manager Meets Nagaland CM to Discuss Dimapur-Kohima Projects

Northeast Railway's General Manager, Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, met with Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Monday to discuss ongoing railway projects in the state.

The purpose of the meeting was to address various concerns and facilitate the smooth execution of railway projects in Nagaland. Sabyasachi De, CPRO of NF Railway, stated that during the meeting, the General Manager assured the Chief Minister that railway connectivity in the ongoing Dhansiri-Zubza new line project, up to Molvom and Pherima, would be achieved by September 2024.

In response to the State authorities' request, the railway will develop a Goods Yard at Molvom. The General Manager further pledged that NF Railway would develop rail infrastructure in the state according to its requirements. The Chief Minister accepted NF Railway's proposal to establish a high-level committee in the state to address railway-related issues. The committee is scheduled to convene quarterly.

NF Railway aims to redefine railway infrastructure in the region. Apart from the Kohima connectivity project, set to be commissioned by 2026, NF Railway plans to establish direct rail connectivity between Kohima and Imphal, the capital cities of Nagaland and Manipur, respectively.

The General Manager provided an update on the ongoing projects, stating that the Reconnaissance Engineering cum Traffic survey for the Zubza-Imphal new line has been completed. NF Railway is poised to begin the Final Location Survey shortly, for which the contract is already in place.

In 2022, NF Railway inaugurated the Shokhuvi Railway station in Nagaland, the second railway station in the state after Dimapur, which opened after a gap of more than 100 years.

NF Railway, on behalf of Indian Railways, is actively contributing to the transformation of the Northeastern states by undertaking various new railway line connectivity projects. The construction of new railway lines connecting all the state capitals in the northeastern region with the rest of the nation is a top priority for the railway.
