Nigahi Opencast expansion project gets CCEA nod

New Delh: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Wednesday approved the proposal for the expansion of Nigahi Opencast Project of Northern Coalfields Ltd, a subsidiary of Coal India Ltd, from 10 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 15 mtpa.

The estimated cost of the expansion project is Rs 259.40 crore.

“The additional coal production will meet the requirement of third phase of Vindhayachal power plant of NTPC Ltd,” the Union Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, told newspersons here today.

The CCEA also gave its approval for flexibility in the implementation stage within the approved cost estimates to respond to improvement profitability parameters.
