New terminal building to be launched in Chandigarh

New Delhi: The Minister for Civil Aviation, Mr Praful Patel, will lay the foundation stone for the construction of a new integrated terminal building at Chandigarh airport tomorrow.

An official statement issued here today said that Mr Patel would also be present at the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMDA) for the development of an international civil air terminal complex at Mohali.

A new joint venture company, in which AAI would have a majority stake, would be formed. The joint venture company, in which GMDA would hold a minority stake, would also take up the city side development of the airports in the state. GMDA would acquire the required land from the State Government and give it to the joint venture company.

At Chandigarh airport, AAI plans to construct an international terminal building having modular design which can handle 700 passengers apart from constructing a cargo complex.
