New Multi-State Milk Cooperative Launches in Gujarat, Sourcing from 22 States & UTs.

A new multi-state cooperative, named 'Sardar Patel Co-operative Dairy Federation Ltd,' was officially launched in Gujarat on Sunday. Registered in Gandhinagar under Section 7 of the Multi-State Co-operative Societies Act, 2002, this new entity aims to significantly expand milk collection efforts across 20 States and 2 Union Territories, including key southern states like Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

The cooperative's logo was unveiled by Union Home and Co-operative Minister Amit Shah at an event in Anand, marking the four-year anniversary of the Union Ministry of Co-operation. "This Sardar Patel Co-operative Dairy Federation will help farmers at a level that Amul does by engaging in fair practices of procuring milk and providing appropriate pricing," Shah stated, emphasizing the new body's commitment to equitable practices for milk producers.

Officials clarified that the Sardar Patel Co-operative Dairy Federation Ltd will focus exclusively on milk collection from approximately 20,000 "untapped" village-level milk cooperatives in various states. Crucially, the new cooperative will not compete with existing giants like the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) or any other state-level dairy federations, ensuring a complementary role within India's vast dairy sector. This strategic approach aims to fill gaps in the current procurement network, benefiting a broader base of farmers.
