New Devanahalli Terminal to Alleviate Congestion at Bengaluru’s Railway Stations: Minister.

In a bid to ease congestion at Bengaluru’s railway stations, the Minister of State (MoS) for Railways, V Somanna, announced plans to construct a new terminal at the Devanahalli Railway Station. This development is part of ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure, which also include significant upgrades at other stations like Hoodi Halt, Whitefield, and Carmelaram. During his inspection, Somanna revealed that Rs 1,200 crore worth of development work is underway at the KSR Bengaluru station, executed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

The government also plans to add two new platforms at KSR Bengaluru, with an estimated budget of Rs 180 crore for their construction. Additionally, Somanna highlighted the progress of the city’s circular railway network, which spans 280 km and is expected to accommodate the increasing passenger demand.

Regarding Bengaluru's upcoming suburban rail projects, the minister confirmed that two key corridors — Benniganahalli to Chikkabanavara (25 km) and Heelalige to Rajanukunte (46.8 km) — are scheduled for completion by March 2027. The Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Ltd (KRIDE) and the Railways are working to ensure these projects meet the deadline.

Somanna also provided updates on the ongoing quadrupling of the railway line between Bengaluru Cantonment and Whitefield, which will enhance connectivity between these vital parts of the city.

While inspecting the infrastructure work, the minister pointed out the challenge of rainwater drainage, stressing the importance of addressing this issue to prevent disruption. Furthermore, the development projects will focus on constructing and improving Road Over Bridges (ROBs), Road Under Bridges (RUBs), underpasses, and water vents to help ease both traffic and water flow in the region.
