New Bidding Process for Green Ammonia Supply Ends with a Winner.
In a landmark auction for green energy, ACME Cleantech Solutions has secured a winning bid to supply green ammonia to Paradeep Phosphates Ltd in Odisha. The bid, a first of its kind conducted by the Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd (SECI), was awarded at a record low price of ₹55.75 per kg.
The auction falls under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) scheme (Mode-2A), which aims to boost India's transition to clean energy. SECI, acting as the intermediary procurer, will facilitate the supply of 75,000 tonnes of green ammonia.
The discovered price, roughly $641 per metric tonne (MT), is significantly lower than previous international auctions, such as the H2Global auction where the price was $1,153 per MT. According to SECI, this 10-year fixed-price contract, which is only slightly higher than the current price of "grey" ammonia ($515 per MT as of March 2025), provides a strong economic incentive for companies to begin their clean energy transition.
This winning bid is just the beginning of a larger initiative. SECI announced on LinkedIn that this is the first of 13 planned auctions to be held over the coming month, with a total procurement capacity of 7.24 lakh tonnes per year.
